Up to 37 students will gain admission to the first year of undergraduate academic studies for working students at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in academic year 2019/2020 and be granted the status of self-funded students.

  1. To be eligible to apply to undergraduate academic studies for working students, an applicant must: have been employed/on a contract for at least six months in the previous year, or be a member of the association of artists and art associates, or be otherwise engaged.

 

  1. All admission applicants take the affinities and abilities exam, as an admission requirement. The affinities and abilities exam, taken separately for each study program, includes: talent testing, i.e. necessary knowledge in majors or related courses; testing mental and physical capabilities, affinities and personality traits necessary for art work, namely a specific profession in the field of dramatic arts taught at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts. The exam includes practical tasks, oral examinations, written papers, tests, and interviews.

 

 

3.         To be eligible to gain admission to the first year of undergraduate academic studies for working students, an applicant must hold a four-year high school diploma or in case he/she do not hold a high school diploma, he/she must pass a specific additional exam according to the curriculum for high schools specialized in social and linguistic sciences in the following courses: a) Serbian Language and Literature, b) History, c) Foreign Language (English, French, German, or Russian) and d) Arts (Visual Arts and Music).

4.         The order of applicants for admission to the first year of undergraduate academic studies is determined on the basis of the average grade achieved in high school and results of the affinities and abilities exam. An applicant can earn a maximum of 100 points.

5.         The average grade in high school (GPA) is the sum of average grades in all courses in the first, second, third, and fourth years. The high school average grade is rounded up to two decimals. On this basis, an applicant can earn minimum 8 or maximum 20 points.

An applicant can earn 0-80 points on the affinities and abilities exam.

6.         Only the applicant who passes the affinities and abilities exam can be ranked on the single ranking list. The Faculty determines the order of the applicants who have passed the affinities and abilities exam according to the total number of points earned.

7.         An applicant can gain admission, if he/she is ranked up to the number approved for admission of self-funded working students on the single ranking list, which is determined by this application process, and has earned more than 30 points.

8.         If two applicants have the same number of points, an applicant who has a higher number of points in the affinities and abilities exam will be ranked higher.

9.         The Faculty determines and publishes the order of applicants, which is the basis for admission of applicants in accordance the application process for admission of working students for academic year 2019/2020.

10.       The tuition fee at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts for academic year 2019/2020 for working self-funded students of the undergraduate academic studies is:

*International students, who are the nationals of neighboring countries (Republic of Hungary, Romania, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of North Macedonia, Republic of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Croatia, and Montenegro).

 

Undergraduate academic studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts study programs last four years (8 semesters, 240 ECTS credits).

Access to further studies: master academic studies, then doctoral academic studies.

 

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION APPLICATION

Applicants must submit their applications with necessary documents on September 6, 2019, from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M., and September 7, 2019, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. to the Secretariat of the Faculty.

The applicants must submit:

  • An application form, which you can download HERE or receive at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts on the day of submission of documents,
  • a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate,
  • certificates for each grade of secondary education (certified copies, or uncertified copies with original documents for inspection),
  • diploma on the passed final or high school graduation exam (certified copy, or uncertified copy with the original document for inspection),
  • CV,
  • a photograph – postcard format (9x13 cm),
  • medical certificate on health status for admission to faculty (for all applicants),
  • for Camera Department, also a medical certificate from an ophthalmologist,
  • for Editing Department, also a medical certificate from an otorhinolaryngologist on hearing status,
  • for Sound Recording and Design, also a medical certificate on hearing status with an audiogram,
  • Applicants are required to submit proof of employment (copy of the employment contract).

 

  • If an applicant is not employed, he/she is required to submit a copy of the employment contract for at least six months over the course of last year, or a certificate of being a member of the association of artists and art associates, or another official proof of hire.

IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020

 

 

DRAMATIC AND AUDIO VISUAL ARTS  

  • FILM AND TELEVISION DIRECTING MODULE 

When submitting the documents, each applicant is obliged to attach the following exercise:

A film, duration up to ten minutes (to be submitted in mp4 or QuickTime format, in H264 codec, on a USB flash, formatted in FAT32 system, and electronically, via a personal YouTube/Vimeo link, to the address: ftvrezija@fdu.bg.ac.rs).

The exam consists of three elimination parts:

First part

a) Written film and general knowledge test,
 

Note: The test contains 30 questions. An applicant who answers 60% of the questions correctly qualifies for the analysis of a feature film and the execution of directing tasks.

 

POINTS SYSTEM

The first part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 3 points, as follows:

If the applicant answers correctly to 18-24 questions, he/she is rated with 1 point.

If the applicant answers correctly to 25-27 questions, he/she is rated with 2 points.

If the applicant answers correctly to 28-30 questions, he/she is rated with 3 points.

 

b) Brief analysis of the feature film – written,
c) Execution of directing tasks – written.

 

 

Second part

 

Oral examination (interview with the applicant, presentation of the film, defense of the directing tasks, film analysis, testing general film and television knowledge on the basis of required reading list). 

POINTS SYSTEM

The second part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 7 points.

An applicant who earns a minimum of 4 points qualifies for the third elimination part of the exam.

Third part

  1. Practical exercises:

a) Filming a short documentary exercise in the field, using video equipment,
b) Editing a short documentary exercise with the help of a demonstrator,
c) Filming a short drama scene,

d) Editing a short drama exercise with the help of a demonstrator.

  1. Theoretical exercises:

e) Oral defense of the practical exercises,
f) Questions from the required reading list. 

POINTS SYSTEM

The third part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 70 points.

 

  • FILM AND TELEVISION PRODUCTION MODULE

The exam consists of four parts, three of which are elimination parts:

First part

WRITTEN TEST of basic knowledge in the field of cinematography, television and general knowledge, which consists of 60 questions. About 50% of all questions is from the field of cinematography and television, on the basis of the reading list specified in the application process requirements. The questions are answered by choosing the correct one from the three offered answers. The duration of the test is 15 minutes, and applicants who have at least 41 correct answers are considered to have passed the test and they may proceed to the next part.

POINTS SYSTEM

The first part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 6 points.

An applicant who earns a minimum of 4.1 points qualifies for the second elimination part of the exam.

Second part

WRITTEN PAPER.  After a screening of a short feature film, the applicants write a production analysis. The following is evaluated: analysis of production element, film subject and idea consideration, applicant’s personal opinion. Applicants have half an hours to write the paper. Applicants who earn a grade less than 7 for the written paper cannot continue with exams.

POINTS SYSTEM

The second part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 4 points.

An applicant who earns a minimum of 1 point qualifies for the third part of the exam.

Third part

PRACTICAL TEST OF CREATIVE ABILITIES:

Individual production analysis of a film or television show, with an oral defense.

Fourth part

AN INTERVIEW with the applicants.

During the interview with the applicants, affinities, creative abilities and personality traits of an applicant, his/her general interests and suitability for the studies are considered.

POINTS SYSTEM

Third and fourth part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 70 points. 

  • CAMERA MODULE

Applicants are obliged to prepare:

  1. Selection of photos which are part of their work created thus far. The collection should consist of 9-15 photographs, 20x30 cm (A4) format. Photos should not be mounted and should be without passe-partout. Every photo and envelope in which they are submitted should be signed with the applicant's name and surname.
  2. A USB flash drive with one or more individually made video exercises edited in a single unit, with a duration of up to 5 minutes. The format of exercises that applicants submit must be: Mpg 4 / H264 / 25 fps / 1920x1080 / 20 mbps. The USB flash drive or the envelope in which it is submitted should be signed with applicant's name and surname.
  3. Note: Exercises must be in the specified format only. Exercises in a different format, regardless of whether they are on the specified media, will not be accepted.

These exercises must be submitted together with application forms.

The exam consists of three elimination parts:

FIRST PART

Taking photos on specific topics. Photos must be taken on a digital camera provided by the applicant. The task is the same for all applicants. After the shooting and the selection of photos, the applicants orally defend their photos before the exam board.

POINTS SYSTEM

An applicant can earn a maximum of 5 points. An applicant who earns a minimum of 3 points qualifies for the second elimination part of the exam.

SECOND PART

Shooting a short film on specified topics. Applicants record with their own equipment. The task is the same for all applicants.

POINTS SYSTEM

An applicant can earn a maximum of 5 points. An applicant who earns a minimum of 3 points qualifies for the third elimination part of the exam.

 

THIRD PART

a) Written visual, film, and general knowledge test.

b) Interview – visual, general, and technical knowledge and awareness test, visual expression and communication aptitude test, film and television activities affinities and abilities test, knowledge of one world language and computer basics test. 

POINTS SYSTEM

Written test and interview are rated as a whole. An applicant can earn a maximum of 70 points.

 

Note: In order to participate in the application process, and later for the study program, it is necessary for the applicants to have the following equipment:

a) digital SLR camera,

b) tripod,

c) light meter,

d) computer equipped for image processing.

 

  • EDITING MODULE

In order to apply, applicants must submit application forms together with a video-autobiography on a DVD as a mp4 or mov file in h.264 compression, up to three minutes in length, which should clearly and understandably point out important biographical elements in an articulated edited unit. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to create an audiovisual self-portrait, while the technical quality of the presentation is not crucial.

When taking the second part of the entrance examination, applicants should bring, as a backup, a USB drive with their autobiography.

Applicants may also present the board with an audiovisual work demonstrating applicant’s editing skills.

The exam consists of three elimination parts:

FIRST PART

A written test of basic knowledge in the field of film, television, art history, computer science, and general knowledge consists of 60 questions. Applicants who answer at least 38 test questions correctly qualify for the second part of the exam.

POINTS SYSTEM

The first part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 2 points, as follows:

If the applicant answers correctly to 38-49 questions, he/she is rated with 1 point.

If the applicant answers correctly to 50-60 questions, he/she is rated with 2 points.

An applicant who earns a minimum of 1 point qualifies for the second elimination part of the exam.

 

SECOND PART


            Oral examination testing applicants’ affinities towards film and television editing. Film inserts and submitted practical exercise are analyzed.

  • SOUND RECORDING AND DESIGN MODULE

The entrance examination is a requirement for all applicants.

A photo submitted with the required documents should clearly show the applicant’s face. It is recommended to have a recent photo, not older than 6 (six) months.

In addition to the application form, the applicant is also obliged to submit an independently recorded short audio, free theme and form, with a duration of up to 2 minutes. It is necessary to use sound effects, music, and speech when creating this audio. During the entrance examination, the idea, the ability to express it and the esthetic sense for creating a sound image are assessed. The technical quality of the recording is not crucial.

The recording must be submitted on an AUDIO COMPACT DISC (format CD AUDIO, 44.1kHz, 16 bit, stereo, and not DATA, such as MP3, WAV, AIFF, etc.).

In addition to an AUDIO COMPACT DISK, the applicant has to submit a detailed explanation of the audio devices used to create the audio and the work procedure. The name and surname of the applicant, name and duration of the audio and the information concerning whether it is mono or stereo have to be written on the submitted COMPACT DISC.

The applicant must also submit a general medical certificate and a special certificate on hearing status with an audiogram issued by an official specialized medical institution, which audiogram must not be older than 6 (six) months.

The exam consists of four elimination parts:

FIRST PART

Written test of basic knowledge in the field of general knowledge and awareness, film, television, radio, theater, music, and audio technology. The test consists of 60 questions. Duration of the test is 30 minutes.

Applicants who answer at least 38 questions correctly qualify for the second part of entrance examination.

Points system: An applicant can earn a maximum of 3 (three) points. Applicants who earn a minimum of 1 (one) point qualify for the second elimination part of the examination. Applicants who answer fewer than 38 questions correctly earn 0 (zero) points.

SECOND PART

a) Musicality test

b) A written analysis of the sound image of a film insert that will be shown during the examination.

An applicant who has successfully passed the musicality test qualifies for the third part of the exam.

Points system: An applicant can earn a maximum of 3 points. An applicant who earns a minimum of 2 points qualifies for the third elimination part of the exam.

THIRD PART

a) Tests the ability to recognize sounds, musical instruments, and musical compositions;
b) Tests affinities and basic knowledge in the field of audio technology and computers.

Points system: An applicant can earn a maximum of 4 points. An applicant who earns a minimum of 3 points qualifies for the fourth elimination part of the examination.

FOURTH PART

a) Interview – during the interview, affinities, abilities, personality traits, and general interests of an applicant for the study program are considered.

b) Analysis of required practical exercise submitted on an audio compact disk.

c) Practical test of applicant’s creative abilities.

Points system: An applicant can earn a maximum of 70 (seventy) points.

 

MANAGEMENT AND PRODUCTION IN THEATER, RADIO, AND CULTURE 

The affinities and abilities test consists of three elimination parts:

FIRST PART

A written test in general knowledge. The test consists of sixty questions which applicants have 15 minutes to answer. Applicants who answer at least 41 test questions correctly qualify for the second part of the examination.

 

POINTS SYSTEM

The first part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 6 points.

An applicant who earns a minimum of 4.1 points qualifies for the second part of the exam.

SECOND PART

Written paper – an essay on one of six topics – theater, radio, or culture (120 min).

POINTS SYSTEM

The second part – an applicant can earn a maximum of 4 points.

An applicant who earns 0 points will not qualify for the third elimination part of the exam.

 

THIRD PART

Interview with the exam board.

All other conditions for applying will be in accordance with the general terms of the joint student application process for admission to the first year of undergraduate studies for working students.

Applicants are obliged to bring their ID card or passport when coming to the exam.

For the application process, applicants may submit certified copies of documents or uncertified copies with original documents for inspection. For enrollment, however, only original documents may be submitted.

International Students Admission Requirements

Excerpt from the Statute of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts

Article 33


A foreign citizen can enroll in all study programs organized by the Faculty under the same conditions as a Serbian citizen. 

A foreign citizen can enroll in study programs if he/she knows the language in which lessons are delivered. 

A foreign citizen is enrolled in the status of a self-funded student. 

The amount for scholarship for foreign students is determined by the Faculty Council for each academic year.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Applicants applying for the affinities and abilities exam to enroll in the first year of undergraduate academic studies and having completed secondary education abroad, are obliged to submit a request for validation of their foreign high school documents (certificates and diploma) to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia.

These applicants, in addition to other required documents for the affinities and abilities exam, must also submit the decision on diploma validation or a certificate from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia that the process of diploma validation has been initiated.
