AN INTERNATIONAL EVENT ON EDUCATION AND CULTURE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH – LITERATURE AND PLAYWRITING IN FOCUS ON JUNE 11 AND 12 AT THE FDA

As part of the visit to the Faculty of Dramatic Arts by Prof. Dr. Julia Mickenberg of the University of Texas at Austin, and Prof. Dr. Philip Nel of Kansas State University, the Institute for Theatre, Film, Radio and Television together with the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policy and Management of the University of Arts in Belgrade are organizing a two-day interdisciplinary event dedicated to education and culture for children and youth with a focus on literature and playwriting, that will be held on June 11 and 12 at Faculty of Dramatic Arts.
The event is intended for students and colleagues who engage—through research, activism, production, or artistic practice—with culture and cultural policy for children and young people, playwriting and performing arts for young audiences, literature and its history, as well as topics of (self-)education, arts education, the strike in the education sector, utopia, and the future.

June 11th
16:00 Book presentation “The Unpredictable Past of the Future: The Political Potential of Utopia”, edited by Ivana Momčilović and published by Edicija Jugoslavija, Professors` Hall of the FDA (Room no. 76).
17:00 Lecture “In Dreams Begin Possibilities: Can Children’s Literature Change the World?”, Prof. Dr. Julia Mickenberg, University of Texas at Austin & Prof. Dr. Philip Nel, Kansas State University, followed by Commentary by playwright Minja Bogavac and full professor at the FDA, researcher and author Dr. Irena Ristić and plenary discussion, Classroom no. 39.
19:00 Experimental film screening “Poems from Which we Learned - fragments on self-learning in sensible and politics” by the Collective for Aesthetic Education for All “PhD in One Night” and the Academic Film Centre of the Students’ City Cultural Center, Small Screening Room of the FDA (Room no. 44).

10:00 “Plays for Young People as a Space of Political and Ecological Imagination”, introductory lecture by Tijana Grumić, playwright and assistant professor at the Department of Dramaturgy, Faculty of Dramatic Arts
11:30 “Imagining a Better World in a Museum: The Premises of ‘Hedgehog’s Home’ by Branko Ćopić at the Museum of Yugoslavia”, Sara Sopić and Mirjana Slavković, curators at the Museum of Yugoslavia
12:30 p.m. Conference conclusions
In addition to the speakers whose names are listed in the program, we look forward to broader discussions, comments, and the active participation of all interested attendees, so that we may exchange opinions, experiences, and insights on the topics raised within local artistic, academic and educational communities.
The gathering is organized by Dr. Milena Dragićević Šešić, Professor Emerita and Dr. Tatjana Nikolić, Research Associate.
The event is part of the guest lecture series organized by the Institute for Theatre, Film, Radio and Television “Works in Progress: Towards New Research Topics”, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policy and Management of the University of Arts, the Centre for Theoretical Research in the Humanities at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb, Edicija Jugoslavija, the Les Orangeries de Bierbais Residency in Belgium and the Collective PhD in One Night.
