This Friday, December 15, 2023, Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, awarded the title of honorary doctor of the University of Montpellier to Milena Dragićević Šešić, professor emerita of our University.
Professor Emerita Milena Dragićević Šešić is founder of the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policy and Management of the University of Arts in Belgrade, and its former President (2000-2004).
University of Montpellier awarder professor Dragićević Šešić as a specialist in participatory approaches to the design and development of local, regional and national cultural policies. Besides her 40 years of contributing to the teaching, research and development of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts and then also University of Arts in Belgrade, Milena Dragićević Šešić has worked as an expert in cultural policy and management for the Council of Europe, the European Cultural Foundation, Pro Helvetia and many other institutions and organizations.
“With over fifty projects developed, her expertise has benefited the cultural policies of many countries in Southeast Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and the Near East.”
In 2002, France honoured professor Šešić with the insignia of Commandeure de l'ordre des Palmes académiques.
Created by decree on June 26, 1918, the origins of the honorary doctorate can be traced back to the 17th century. Per the official statement of the University of Montpellier, it is awarded to foreign personalities who highlight and reflect the values of the university through their contribution to the world of ideas, culture, the arts and sciences. Awarded at a solemn ceremony, this is the most eminent and prestigious academic title to be conferred by the university and scientific community.
